Banana

Writing Prompt: Write a story from the point of view of an apple, sitting in a fruit basket on your kitchen counter, observing life around it.

“Hello, I’m Apple,” says Apple.

“Hi, I’m Orange,” answers Orange cheerfully, “and this is Banana, he’s still feeling a little green,” Orange adds gesturing to the green banana in the basket.

“Nice to meet you, Orange, Banana,” says Apple.

“So what brought you here?” asks Orange.

“I don’t know, it all happened so fast that the next thing I know I was brought here,” Apple says.

“Oh, oh, me too, me too!” says Orange, “And so was Banana, we were brought here together.”

“But why?” Apple asks.

“That’s because the people in this house love us,” says Orange switching from a cheerful attitude to a demonic one.

“Oh, they love us all right,” says Banana in a hoarse voice. “Just like they loved all seven of my brothers and sisters.”

“What happened to them,” Apple asks, feeling a little worried.

“You’re about to find out,” says Orange.

Just then from the other side of the room a little boy comes running downstairs yelling, “Mommy, mommy, I’m hungry.”

“Well, what about a snack?” says the mother.

“Yeah, a snack, a snack!” says the little boy with joy.

“Ok, what would you like today?” asks the mom.

“I want a banana,” says the boy.

“Well the banana is still green honey you can’t eat it yet,” says the mom.

“Awww,” the boy says sadly.

“How about an apple instead,” says the mother.

“Yeah, apple, apple!” the little boy jumps with joy again.

The mom reaches into the basket to get the apple.

“No! Wait! What are they going to do to me?” Apple says in a panic as he gets picked up.

“They’re going to eat you silly,” says Orange back in her happy tone.

“What?!” says Apple, “NOO!! Please don’t eat me I just got here! I’m too young to die!” he cries out in panic.

The mom hands the apple to the child and he takes a big bite.

Orange laughs as she hears Apple's scream, first in her cheerful voice then turning into a demonic and sinister laugh as she turns around to look at Banana, “You’re next,” she says and continues to laugh demonically.
