Hi Everyone! The days are quickly passing by, only 5 days left now. Woohoo! I hope y'all are as excited as I am. Here's a short story about Jack and Jill, two childhood friends about to be separated for the first time.
It's the last day of summer and just like every other year, they sat on the old well on top of the hill to watch the sun go down. It's been about a year since it dried up, but it was still their favorite spot in the whole town.
“Are you really leaving?” asks Jill as she sadly stares into the sunset.
“Yes, ma got a new job, so we’re moving,” Jack replied.
“I don’t want you to move,” Jill says as she leans on Jack’s shoulder.
“I don’t want to move either,” Jack says as he wraps his arm around her waist.
“Then don’t go.”
“I have to, or else who’s gonna take care of ma,” says Jack.
Jill thinks about it for a while and then gives a long sigh. She then looks up at Jack and asks, “So when are you leaving?”
Jack looks down at his shoes for a minute, and quietly says, “Tomorrow.”
Jill was very shocked and all she could manage to say was, “Oh.”
Jack noticed how upset Jill was about all this and quickly tried to cheer her up. “You know its not all bad, we might not be able to see each other but we can send letters. I’ll send you something form the city too.”
“Really?” Jill says while holding back her tears. Jack hates to see Jill sad, and Jill knew this very well. That’s why she never wants to let Jack see her cry.
“Yeah, I’ll write to you every day.” Jack says, “So don’t be sad Jill.”
Jill wipes her eyes the best she can and give Jack a smile. Then they both head home hand in hand. When it was time to go there separate ways they paused, neither one of them wanted to let go. It was Jack who let go first, “I gotta go,” he says with his back turned away from Jill, ready to leave.
“Wait, Jack,” Jill says and she quickly gets a hold of his shirt before he is able to leave. “Will I,” she chokes, “Will I ever--get to see you again?”
“I don’t know,” replies Jack. He got loose of Jills grip and ran off.
Jill didn’t want to end it with that so she yells to him, “I’ll be waiting for your return, Jack.” No longer being able to hold back her tears, they stream down her cheeks as she watches Jack grow smaller and smaller.
