Hello Everyone, Welcome to Day 11 of my 30Day Blog Challenge! Like the title says, today is a special day. IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!! I am officially 23 years old. I say officially because I've been telling people I was 23 since the beginning of the year (lol). I don't know why but I'm strangely ok with being 23. I've heard rumors and sayings about people not liking you when your 23, but I don't care about silly stuff like that. I'm actually very ok to be out of my Taylor Swift year (referring to her song 22) and in my Micheal Jordan year (referring to his jersey #23).
But there's something that a lot of people don't know about today. Today, April 15 is a day of tragedies.
According to Wikipedia, in...
1715– The Pocotaligo Massacre triggers the start of the Yamasee War in colonial South Carolina.
1865– President Abraham Lincoln dies after being shot the previous evening by actor John Wilkes Booth.
1900–Philippine–American War: Filipino guerrillas launch a surprise attack on U.S. infantry and begin a four-day siege of Catubig, Philippines.
1912 – The British passenger liner RMS Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic at 2:20 a.m., two hours and forty minutes after hitting an iceberg. Only 710 of 2,227 passengers and crew on board survive.
1970– During the Cambodian Civil War, a massacre of the Vietnamese minority results in 800 bodies flowing down the Mekong River into South Vietnam.
2013–Two bombs explode near the finish line at the Boston MarathoninBoston, Massachusetts, killing three people and injuring 264 others.
2013 – A wave of bombings across Iraq kills at least 75 people.
2014 – In the worst massacre of the South Sudanese Civil War, at least 200 civilians were gunned down after seeking refuge in houses of worship as well as hospitals.
2019– The cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris in France is seriously damaged by a large fire.
So yeah, lots of terrible things happened on this day. But April 15 isn't that bad, Here are so non-tragic events that happened today.
1817–Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc founded the American School for the Deaf, the first American school for deaf students, in Hartford, Connecticut.
1923 – Insulin becomes generally available for use by people with diabetes.
1947 – Jackie Robinson debuts for the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking baseball's color line.
1955–McDonald'srestaurant dates its founding to the opening of a franchised restaurant by Ray Kroc, in Des Plaines, Illinois.
April 15 is just like any other day really. But at least now you know some cool historical events that went on today! So to all my fellow brothers and sisters out there born on April 15, I say Happy Birthday to Us! I hope everyone is doing ok and keeping safe during these tough times. I'll see y'all next time.
P.S. I found this picture of me holding my baby picture when I was little and decided to take a similar one today to see the difference in years.
